MP Civil Judge Recruitment Finally Cleared
Supreme Court Approves Interview and Result Release for MP Civil Judge Exam
The long-pending recruitment process for Civil Judges (Junior Division – Entry Level) 2022 in Madhya Pradesh has received a green signal from the Supreme Court of India. The apex court has allowed the MP High Court to proceed with the interview process and announce the results, clearing the way after a nearly two-year delay.
Supreme Court Verdict
A bench comprising Justice P.S. Narasimha and Justice A.S. Chandurkar issued the order after hearing arguments by lawyer Ashwini Kumar Dubey on behalf of the High Court. He stated that conducting the exam again would be unconstitutional and impractical, potentially leading to further disputes.
Background and Controversy
The MP High Court informed the Supreme Court that 77 candidates had already cleared the main examination, but the process was halted due to a rule change dispute.
What Was the Issue?
In June 2023, the Madhya Pradesh Judicial Service Rules, 1994 were amended to mandate a minimum of three years of legal practice for Civil Judge aspirants. However, an exemption was given to General and OBC law graduates with 70% or more marks.
Despite this, two candidates—Jyotsna Dohaliya and Varsha Srivastava—filed a review petition in the MP High Court, claiming they were eligible under the revised rules but were not allowed to appear for the main exam.
Based on these petitions, the High Court earlier declared the 77 selected candidates ineligible and halted the recruitment process. This decision was challenged in the Supreme Court by both the MP High Court and the disqualified candidates.
Now, with the Supreme Court’s approval, the process can finally move forward to its conclusion.
