On April 16, 2025, Olympic silver medalist Mirabai Chanu was appointed as the Chairperson of the Athlete's Commission of the Indian Weightlifting Federation (IWLF). Chanu expressed her gratitude for the appointment and stated, "I am honored to be selected as the Chairperson of IWLF's Athlete's Commission. It is an opportunity for me to amplify the voices of my fellow weightlifters."
Chanu further emphasized, "I take the responsibilities that come with this role seriously, and I will work diligently to ensure that athletes' perspectives and needs are communicated effectively."
Mirabai Chanu's Sporting Achievements
Mirabai Chanu made history as the second Indian weightlifter to win an Olympic medal, securing a silver at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics in the 49 kg weight category. In addition, she has earned gold medals at the 2018 and 2022 Commonwealth Games and silver at the 2017 World Championships. Her only missing medal from her trophy cabinet is from the Asian Games.
