Minimum Wage Increase and 6-Month DA for Daily Wage Workers in Madhya Pradesh

On March 31, a notification was issued announcing an increase in the minimum wage for daily wage workers, effective from April 2025. The notification, issued by the Labor Commissioner, also includes the provision of a dearness allowance (DA) for the period from April 1, 2025, to September 30, 2025. This change will benefit approximately 20 lakh daily wage employees working in mills, factories, public enterprises, and electricity companies across the state.

The wage increase will raise the daily wage of employees across all four categories, ranging from ₹466 to ₹633 starting April 1, 2025. The Labor Commissioner typically increases the minimum wage twice a year, in April and October, based on the Consumer Price Index (CPI).

Labor union leaders like Pushtan Bhattacharya, Ashok Pandey, Vasudev Sharma, and Manoj Bhargav have demanded that the wage increase be based on the new index instead of the old one. It is noteworthy that last year's wage increase, which was announced in April, was later reduced in May.
