52 Medical Colleges in Madhya Pradesh by 2028, Faculty Shortage a Big Challenge
On December 23, 2023, the foundation stone for a 600-bed medical college was laid in Dhar district, Madhya Pradesh. The ceremony took place at the PG College Ground, with Union Health Minister JP Nadda and Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav in attendance. During the event, the Union Minister announced that the foundation stones for two more medical colleges in Katni and Panna districts would be laid in January 2026. Nadda stated that the medical college in Dhar would be the first in the country built under the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model. This college will not just be a building but will send MBBS doctors to villages across the region.
During the ceremony, Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav mentioned that the Madhya Pradesh government has allocated 25 acres of land at just 1 rupee for this PPP model medical college in the tribal-dominated region. With this development, people will no longer need to travel to big cities for treatment of serious diseases. Tribal youth will become doctors, and nurses, compounders, and paramedical staff will be trained locally.
Dr. Yadav further stated that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, continuous development work is being carried out in the state. In the past four months, Dhar has received special projects, including the establishment of the country’s first PM Mitra Park and the foundation stone for the PPP model medical college. These initiatives, along with various other development projects, will bring significant improvements to the area.
Additionally, CM Yadav shared that Madhya Pradesh has introduced metro rail services in two cities and new air travel services within the last year. Air ambulance services have also been made available to meet citizens' urgent healthcare needs.
Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav emphasized that the state government is rapidly expanding healthcare services through the establishment of new medical colleges. The medical colleges set up under the public-private partnership model will be the foundation for revolutionary changes in the healthcare sector in the state.
