The Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India, has announced the 2024 Sports Awards. Four athletes, including Manu Bhaker, have been awarded the prestigious Khel Ratna award for their outstanding achievements in sports.

   

Athletes Receiving the Khel Ratna Award

   

Manu Bhaker, D. Gukesh, Harmanpreet Singh, and Pravin Kumar are the four athletes to be honored with the Khel Ratna Award. Here's a brief overview of their accomplishments:

   

       

Manu Bhaker: She became the first athlete to win two Olympic medals in shooting.

       

D. Gukesh: He made history by defeating China to win the World Chess Championship, becoming the youngest ever world champion.

       

Harmanpreet Singh: Awarded for leading the Indian hockey team to a bronze medal at the Paris Olympics.

       

Pravin Kumar: Recognized for winning a gold medal at the Paris Para Olympics.

   

   

Other Awardees

   

In addition to the Khel Ratna, five coaches will receive the Dronacharya Award, two of them for Lifetime Achievement. The Arjuna Award will be conferred upon 32 athletes, including 17 para-athletes, for their remarkable performances. The award ceremony will take place at the Rashtrapati Bhavan on 17th January.
