मालदीव की सरकार के एक वरिष्ठ अधिकारी ने 14 जनवरी को कहा, राष्ट्रपति मुइज्जू ने औपचारिक रूप से भारत से 15 मार्च तक अपने सैन्य कर्मियों को वापस लेने के लिए कहा है।

समाचार एजेंसी पीटीआई की रिपोर्ट के मुताबिक मालदीव और भारत ने सैनिकों की वापसी पर बातचीत के लिए एक उच्च स्तरीय कोर ग्रुप का गठन किया है। माले में विदेश मंत्रालय मुख्यालय में इसकी पहली बैठक हुई। बैठक में भारतीय उच्चायुक्त मुनु महावर भी शामिल थे। राष्ट्रपति मुइज्जू के कार्यालय में सचिव अब्दुल्ला नाजिम इब्राहिम ने भी इस बैठक की पुष्टि की। राष्ट्रपति के रणनीतिक संचार कार्यालय के मंत्री इब्राहिम खलील के हवाले से कहा गया, दोनों देशों के बीच उच्च स्तरीय कोर ग्रुप की बैठक हुई। इस समूह का गठन मालदीव के राष्ट्रपति मोहम्मद मुइज्जू और प्रधानमंत्री मोदी के बीच बैठक के बाद हुआ था। दोनों राष्ट्राध्यक्षों के बीच इस पर सहमति दिसंबर में आयोजित COP28 के दौरान हुई थी। चीन समर्थक नेता माने जाने वाले मुइज्जू ने औपचारिक रूप से भारत से अपने सैन्य कर्मियों को वापस बुलाने का अनुरोध पिछले साल 17 नवंबर को मालदीव के राष्ट्रपति का पद संभालने के तुरंत बाद किया था। मुइज्जू के मुताबिक सैनिकों को वापस भेजने के संबंध में मालदीव की जनता ने उन्हें 'मजबूत जनादेश' दिया है। मुइज्जू ने कहा है कि वह मालदीव के घरेलू मामलों पर किसी भी बाहरी देश का प्रभाव नहीं पड़ने देंगे। उन्होंने पिछली सरकार के कार्यकाल में हस्ताक्षरित 100 से अधिक द्विपक्षीय समझौतों की समीक्षा करने की बात भी कही है।

मुइज्जू की चीन से करीबी और भारत से तल्खी का रूख अपनाने के कारण दोनों देशों के बीच तनाव बढ़ने की आशंका है। हाल ही में उनकी सरकार में शामिल तीन मंत्रियों ने पीएम मोदी के खिलाफ अपमानजनक टिप्पणी की थी। प्रधानमंत्री नरेंद्र मोदी के लक्षद्वीप प्रवास के बाद मालदीव के कुछ बड़बोले उपमंत्रियों और सरकारी अधिकारियों की अपमानजनक टिप्पणी के बाद से ही दोनों देशों के बीच राजनयिक विवाद छिड़ा हुआ है। हालांकि, मालदीव के पूर्व राष्ट्रपतियों और मंत्रियों सहित मालदीव के कई राजनेताओं ने इन टिप्पणियों की निंदा की है। मुइज्जू प्रशासन को इन लोगों ने याद दिलाया है कि भारत मालदीव का करीबी और महत्वपूर्ण भागीदार है।

A senior Maldivian government official said on 14 January that President Muizzu has formally asked India to withdraw its military personnel by 15 March. This group was formed after the meeting between Maldives President Mohammed Muizzu and Prime Minister Modi. This was agreed upon between the two heads of state during COP28 held in December. As soon as he took the oath, he said – the people of Maldives gave a strong mandate. Muizzoo, considered a pro-China leader, had formally requested India to withdraw its military personnel soon after assuming the office of President of Maldives on November 17 last year. According to Muizzu, the people of Maldives have given him a 'strong mandate' regarding sending back the soldiers. Muizzu has said that he will not allow any outside country to influence the domestic affairs of Maldives. He also talked about reviewing more than 100 bilateral agreements signed during the tenure of the previous government. However, many Maldivian politicians, including former Maldivian presidents and ministers, have condemned these comments. These people have reminded the Muizzu administration that India is a close and important partner of Maldives.
