In a significant move, 1.25 lakh contractual employees in Madhya Pradesh are set to receive major relief as the state government has announced 50% reservation for them in direct recruitment. The Panchayat and Rural Development Department has issued a gazette notification to implement this decision. The announcement was made by former Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan during a conference for contractual employees.

   

This decision is based on policy guidelines issued by the General Administration Department on July 22, 2023. These guidelines also promised similar benefits to contractual employees as regular employees, including equal pay, compassionate appointments, gratuity, leave benefits, and health insurance.

   

Sanjay Dubey, the Additional Chief Secretary of the General Administration Department, confirmed that, as per the government’s policy, 50% reservation will be applicable across all departments, including in direct recruitment. This move is expected to bring substantial relief to the contractual workforce in the state.

   

However, the implementation of salary scales based on the CPI index led to a reduction in the grade pay of several employees, resulting in over 8,000 employees approaching the court within a year. Several corporations and bodies, including the Poultry Development Corporation and MAP IT, failed to follow the contractual policies as prescribed.
