Madhya Pradesh’s Heritage Crafts Included in India’s Intellectual Property Rights Through GI Tag
Five very ancient traditional crafts of Madhya Pradesh, known as the heart of India, have received the honor of being included in India's Intellectual Property Rights through the Geographical Indication (GI Tag). On this occasion, MSME Minister Chaitanya Kumar Kashyap expressed gratitude to Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav and congratulated the departmental officials for this historic recognition of the state’s cultural heritage.
Padma Shri Dr. Rajni Kant, popularly known as the “GI Man of India”, described this achievement as a moment of great pride. As soon as the status of “Registered” appeared on the website of the GI Registry Chennai, the artisans associated with these crafts celebrated joyously, and this recognition inspired new enthusiasm among departments including the MSME Department of Madhya Pradesh.
About a year ago, GI applications for Khajuraho Stone Craft, Betul Bhareva Metal Craft, Gwalior Stone Craft, and Gwalior Paper Mache were financially supported by NABARD Madhya Pradesh, while SIDBI Madhya Pradesh supported the application for Chhatarpur Furniture. Through the efforts of the MSME Department, the local artisan organizations submitted these GI applications with technical assistance from Padma Shri Dr. Rajni Kant.
