Land Resource and Management Commissioner to Be Appointed in Madhya Pradesh
In a historic cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav on June 2 in Pachmarhi, Madhya Pradesh, the state government approved several landmark reforms. One of the key decisions was the creation of a new post titled "Commissioner, Land Resource and Management." This move makes Madhya Pradesh the first state in India to implement such a structure.
Revenue and Law & Order Responsibilities to Be Separated
From now on, separate officers will be appointed for revenue courts and law-and-order administration in tehsil offices. Under this system, Tehsildars and Naib Tehsildars will have distinct responsibilities. One officer will handle protocol and administrative duties such as law and order, while the others will focus entirely on hearing revenue cases.
The objective is to expedite the judicial process, reduce the number of pending revenue cases, and enhance service transparency through structured administration.
Structural Reorganization of Revenue Departments
The cabinet approved the merger of the Office of the Commissioner of Land Records and the Principal Revenue Commissioner into one integrated role: "Commissioner, Land Resource and Management," with a primary and an auxiliary headquarters.
500 Old Posts Abolished, 1,200 New Created
To facilitate the new structure, 500 old positions will be abolished and 1,200 new posts will be created, prioritizing candidates with IT knowledge. This will ensure timely and transparent service delivery using technology and bring efficiency to the resolution of revenue cases.
Mandatory Strike Notification for Industries
The cabinet also approved amendments to labor laws. Changes include raising the contract labor limit from 20 to 50 workers and increasing the worker threshold in factories from 10 to 20 (with power) and from 20 to 40 (without power). Additionally, all industrial establishments in the state must now give prior notice before any strike action.
Agritech and Innovation Hub in Indore
Approval was granted for the establishment of an Agritech/Innovation Hub for Agriculture in Indore. The project will be implemented in collaboration with IIT Indore and other institutions. With an estimated budget of ₹15 crore, it will promote modern technologies, support startups, and enhance agricultural quality through genomics, phenomics, precision farming, drone imaging, seed quality testing, big data analytics, and machine learning.
Tribal Affairs Minister Absent Again
Tribal Affairs Minister Vijay Shah was notably absent for the third consecutive cabinet meeting. His continued absence, especially amid the ongoing inquiry over his remarks on Colonel Sophia Qureshi, remains a topic of political discussion.
