Madhya Pradesh Secures Second Place in Wheat Procurement in India
On May 21, following the announcement by Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav to provide a bonus of ₹200 per quintal in addition to the support price to farmers, the state of Madhya Pradesh recorded a record wheat procurement in the 2025-26 rabi marketing season. Around 9 lakh farmers sold 77.75 lakh metric tons of wheat, which is 30 lakh metric tons more than last year, marking a 62% increase. After the CM's announcement, wheat was procured at ₹2600 per quintal, prompting farmers to sell their produce at procurement centers rather than to traders.
On this achievement, Food, Civil Supplies, and Consumer Protection Minister Govind Singh Rajput congratulated Chief Minister Dr. Yadav during the Cabinet meeting held in Indore. He also presented a statue of Lokmata to the Chief Minister in recognition of his efforts for the public good. Minister Rajput informed that Madhya Pradesh ranks second in wheat procurement in the country, after Punjab. This time, nearly ₹20,000 crore has been paid to the farmers, creating a happy atmosphere among the farmers due to timely payments. Additionally, wheat procurement was made from 1.25 lakh women farmers, promoting women empowerment in the state.
Minister Rajput further stated that the number of procurement centers has been increased this year. With timely transportation, more than 95% of the wheat has been stored, eliminating the problem of wheat damage due to rain, which was an issue in previous years. For the first time, payments were made to farmers within 4 to 5 days, paving the way for their economic empowerment.
