Madhya Pradesh Making Strides in Renewable Energy
Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav stated that Madhya Pradesh is progressively reducing its dependence on conventional energy sources by expanding solar energy production. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has set an ambitious target of 500 GW of renewable energy production by 2030 as part of India's plan to achieve net zero carbon footprint by 2070 and transition from fossil fuels. Madhya Pradesh is contributing to this national goal with full dedication.
In the past 12 years, the state has achieved a remarkable 14% growth in renewable energy, increasing its share in total energy production to over 30%. The Chief Minister highlighted the state's significant role in solar energy during the Global Investors Summit in Bhopal, emphasizing Madhya Pradesh's 31,000 MW electricity capacity, with 30% from green energy. The Rewa Solar Park and the country's largest Omkareshwar Floating Solar Plant have brought nationwide recognition and new momentum to renewable energy production.
Renewable Energy Policy and Investments
Madhya Pradesh is the first state in India to implement a technology-agnostic renewable energy policy, offering flexible and investor-friendly opportunities for solar and wind energy development. The state's geographical advantages and abundant natural resources make it one of the leading energy-surplus states in India. The government prioritizes environmental protection and energy self-reliance while continuously promoting renewable energy.
Currently, the state operates five major solar projects with a total capacity of 2.75 GW. The government plans to increase renewable energy capacity to 20 GW by 2030. Investments of over ₹5.72 lakh crore are expected to generate more than 1.4 lakh jobs. Madhya Pradesh is attracting ₹5.21 lakh crore in renewable energy investments, creating 1.46 lakh employment opportunities. These initiatives will play a crucial role in achieving India’s net zero carbon target by 2070. Madhya Pradesh is emerging as a leader in the renewable energy sector and is ready to support the Self-Reliant India and Clean Energy Mission.
