Madhya Pradesh Receives Investment Proposals Worth 30.77 Lakh Crores: 21.40 Lakh Job Opportunities; MOU for Ujjain Airport Development
Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the summit on February 24. The summit concluded on February 25 with the presence of Union Home Minister Amit Shah.
During the two-day Global Investors Summit (GIS) in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh received investment proposals worth 26.61 lakh crores. The state government claims that these proposals will create 17.34 lakh job opportunities. Investors have shown the most interest in manufacturing, as well as renewable energy sectors. Major companies like Adani Group and Reliance have also made significant proposals.
On the first day, February 24, proposals worth 22.50 lakh crores were signed, and on the second day, February 25, proposals worth 4.11 lakh crores were received. Over the two days, six departmental summits took place, with over 500 NRIs attending and presenting their investment proposals.
Earlier, investment proposals were also received during the Regional Industry Conclave and Interactive Sessions. Adding these, Madhya Pradesh has received proposals totaling 30.77 lakh crores, which can create 21.40 lakh job opportunities.
An MOU was signed with aviation company Fly Bharti for the development of an airport in Ujjain, which will involve an investment of 750 crores. Additionally, Air India Express and the Madhya Pradesh Civil Aviation Department signed an MOU for five new flights.
On the second and final day, Union Home Minister Amit Shah attended the closing ceremony. On February 25, the first event was the NRI Madhya Pradesh Summit, followed by summits on four sectors—Urban Development, Tourism, MSMEs, and Mining—where industry leaders signed MOUs.
On January 24, PM Narendra Modi inaugurated the summit. Leading industrialists and investors, including Adani Group Chairman Gautam Adani and Patanjali Ayurveda MD Acharya Balkrishna, also participated in the event.
Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav announced that a special summit on tourism would be held. Cities like Indore, Nagda, Ujjain, Dewas, Maksi (Shajapur), and Pithampur (Dhar) will be developed into metropolitan hubs, and cities like Bhopal, Sehore, Raisen, and Vidisha will also undergo coordinated development.
A 3300-hectare religious city will be developed in Ujjain, while smaller cities like Gwalior, Jabalpur, Sagar, Rewa, and Narmadapuram are emerging as new industrial development centers. The state has also launched air ambulance services under health tourism. The Madhav National Park will be inaugurated as the 9th tiger reserve in the state on March 10.
The second day of the summit began with the NRI conference. Notable attendees included Prerna Bhardwaj, Mayor of Buckinghamshire (London), Rohit Dixit, President of Friends of MP (Boston Chapter), Jagnath Sami, High Commissioner of Fiji, Raj Modi from Zimbabwe, and other prominent NRIs linked to Madhya Pradesh.
Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav highlighted that the role of Madhya Pradesh’s diaspora and the Friends of MP network is vital in creating new job opportunities in the state. He also emphasized that when a resident of Madhya Pradesh becomes the Mayor in London, it symbolizes the state's collective strength and inner connection.
Friends of MP (UAE Chapter) President Jitendra Vaidya stated that Madhya Pradesh is progressing rapidly in all sectors. Sanjay Nagarkar, the leading investor from Hong Kong and Global President of India Connect, praised the state's continuous improvement in ease of doing business and its vast potential in logistics.
On February 25, four sector-based departmental summits took place: Tourism, Mining, MSMEs & Startups, and Urban Development.
Tourism Summit: Actor Pankaj Tripathi Said, "I Will Develop Infrastructure in MP"
Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav, Union Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, and actor Pankaj Tripathi were present. A documentary showcasing Madhya Pradesh's tourism was also presented. Chief Minister Yadav emphasized that the Regional Industry Conclave provided small cities the opportunity for development and inspired people to become entrepreneurs.
Actor Pankaj Tripathi shared his experience of visiting Madhya Pradesh in 2007, where he was captivated by the beauty of places like Bhimbetka, Sanchi, Bhojpur, and Gwalior, which led to his deep admiration for the state.
Mining Summit: Secretary said, "Madhya Pradesh Has Mineral Velocity"
The Secretary of the Mining Department, Umakant Umarav, explained that Madhya Pradesh has significant mineral resources. The state leads in power, manganese, and diamonds, and ranks second in limestone and coal methane production in the country. He emphasized the need for systematic mining and resource management to exploit these minerals effectively.
He also mentioned that Madhya Pradesh offers various policy support, grants, and facilities for mineral development, and every year, about one lakh technical personnel are trained in the state.
Urban Summit: Khattar Said, "Affordable Housing is Most Needed Today"
Union Minister Khattar emphasized the need for good urban mobility for city development, including the potential for rapid rail services in developed cities. He also highlighted the pressing need for affordable housing and mentioned the approval of the MP Government's proposal to provide 10 lakh residential units under PM Awas.
Khattar further stated that the central government will assist in residential development around government offices. Madhya Pradesh's Chief Secretary has shown great interest in housing development, leveraging his prior experience in similar projects in Delhi.
Kailash Vijayvargiya, Minister of Urban Development, mentioned that suggestions from the real estate sector would be gathered during the session to develop a comprehensive urbanization policy for the state.
Sanjay Shukla, Principal Secretary of Urban Development, gave a presentation on "Unlocking Land Value in Cities" and noted the state’s achievements in affordable housing. He further stated that bonds will be issued for city development in the future, particularly for cities unable to issue their own bonds.
