Madhya Pradesh Introduces 148 Free Dead Body Transport Vehicles

Madhya Pradesh Becomes the First State with 148 Free Dead Body Transport Vehicles

On July 28, Madhya Pradesh introduced a scheme where families will no longer have to worry about transporting the deceased from hospitals to their homes. The state government will now provide free dead body transport vehicles at all government hospitals. Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav flagged off 148 vehicles for the entire state. The event took place at the CM House, with Deputy CM Rajendra Shukla and Health Minister Narendra Patel in attendance.

CM Talks About Previous Experiences of Seeing Dead Bodies on Bicycles and Bullock Carts

After flagging off the vehicles, the CM shared his thoughts with the media. He said, "The Madhya Pradesh government has launched several public welfare schemes that have been implemented for the first time in the country. This is one of the most sensitive and important schemes." He added, "We want to stand with the people. If someone is sick, they are brought to the hospital by ambulance and given treatment. But, when a person passes away, many times the family has to carry the body on bicycles, by hand, or on bullock carts. These are the scenes we often see in newspapers or on news channels."

Every District to Have Two Free Dead Body Transport Vehicles

He further stated, "Madhya Pradesh is now setting an example for the rest of the country. No other state in India is providing this kind of service. Through this initiative, 148 vehicles will be provided across the state. Every district will have two vehicles, and where there are medical colleges, an extra two vehicles will be added, making it four vehicles per district. The vehicles will transport deceased individuals from government hospitals to their homes."

Free Service to Start Tomorrow

This service is free of cost, and the entire expense will be borne by the Madhya Pradesh government. The facility will be available from tomorrow, and it is a part of the state’s social responsibility program. The Health Ministry has implemented this scheme, and it will ensure that all deceased persons are transported from post-mortem hospitals to their homes at no charge.

Madhya Pradesh had also previously introduced air ambulance services to assist patients in critical conditions. This new initiative will ensure that the family members of deceased individuals no longer have to bear the burden of transportation during their difficult times.
