Madhya Pradesh Farmers Rank 23rd Nationwide with Monthly Income of ₹9,339

According to official government data, the average monthly income of an agricultural household in Madhya Pradesh stands at approximately ₹9,339. Despite being a major agricultural state, Madhya Pradesh ranks around 23rd–24th among Indian states in terms of farmers’ income.

Income Levels and National Ranking

With this level of income, Madhya Pradesh does not fall among the top-performing agricultural states. The ranking highlights the need for stronger income-focused reforms in the farm sector.

Sources of Farmers’ Income

The reported income of farming households is not limited to crop cultivation alone. It also includes earnings from animal husbandry and wage labor, indicating limited profitability from farming activities alone.

Current Scenario (2025–26)

In the 2025–26 period, the Madhya Pradesh government has claimed that the state has emerged as India’s number one producer of maize and soybean. This achievement highlights the state’s strong agricultural production capacity.

The state government is now focusing on making agriculture more profitable through initiatives such as “Krishak Kalyan Year 2026”, aimed at improving farmer welfare and income levels.

Government Initiatives for Farmer Welfare

The Chief Minister has emphasized providing greater encouragement to farmers by expanding access to agricultural schemes, incentives, and modern farming practices. The objective is to ensure that higher production translates into sustainable income growth for farmers.
