This year, the 2025 Nobel Prize in Literature has been awarded to Hungarian author Laszlo Krasznahorkai. The announcement was made by the Swedish Academy on October 9. Known for his compelling storytelling and poetic strength, Laszlo has also contributed to cinema by writing several screenplays, one of which was nominated for an Oscar.

About Laszlo Krasznahorkai
Laszlo was born on January 5, 1954, in Gyula, Hungary, to a middle-class family. His father, György Krasznahorkai, was a lawyer, and his mother, Júlia Polánka, was a social security administrator. Laszlo discovered at age 11 that his father had hidden their Jewish heritage.
He graduated in 1972 from Erkel Ferenc High School, where he specialized in Latin. In 1973, he began studying law at József Attila University. After completing his education, he started working as a freelance writer.
His debut novel, “Satantango” (1985), was a huge success and firmly established him in Hungarian literature. His most acclaimed works include “Satantango,” “The Melancholy of Resistance,” “War and War,” and “Animalinside.” These novels often feature mysterious plots and eerie, rumor-filled narratives.
