Largest Universe Map Unveiled Featuring 800,000 Galaxies

On June 6, scientists revealed the largest map of the universe ever created, showing over 800,000 galaxies. An international team of 200 researchers from more than 12 countries collaborated on the COSMOS map project using data from the James Webb Space Telescope. The raw data has been made publicly accessible to students, researchers, and scientists worldwide.

One of the most striking features of the COSMOS map is its sheer size. A project scientist stated that if the previous Hubble image (with 10,000 galaxies) was printed on A4 paper, the new COSMOS map would be a mural measuring 13 feet by 13 feet. Before this release, the Hubble Space Telescope's 2004 image was the most widely studied, showcasing 10,000 galaxies.

The COSMOS map not only delivers deeper images of the universe but also challenges existing ideas, such as the number of early galaxies in the universe. Scientists hope this new publicly available resource will encourage deeper research into the cosmos.
