19 फरवरी को असम में खेलों इंडिया यूनिवर्सिटी गेम्स का शुभारंभ हुआ। खेलों का शुभंकर एक तितली-अष्टलक्ष्मी को बनाया गया ।
केन्द्रीय युवा कार्यक्रम और खेल मंत्री श्री अनुराग सिंह ठाकुर ने गुवाहाटी में खेलो इंडिया यूनिवर्सिटी गेम्स का उद्घाटन किया।
प्रधानमंत्री श्री नरेंद्र मोदी ने एक वीडियो संदेश के माध्यम से पूर्वोत्तर के सात राज्यों में आयोजित खेलो इंडिया यूनिवर्सिटी गेम्स को संबोधित किया। प्रधानमंत्री मोदी ने खेलो इंडिया यूनिवर्सिटी गेम्स के शुभंकर यानी तितली के आकार में अष्टलक्ष्मी का उल्लेख किया। पूर्वोत्तर राज्यों को अक्सर अष्टलक्षी कहने वाले प्रधानमंत्री ने कहा, "इन खेलों में तितली को शुभंकर बनाना इस बात का भी प्रतीक है कि पूर्वोत्तर को कैसे नया अनुभव मिल रहा है।"

Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi addressed the Khelo India University Games organized in seven North-Eastern states through a video message. Prime Minister Modi mentioned Ashtalakshmi in the shape of a butterfly, the mascot of the Khelo India University Games. The Prime Minister, who often calls the North-Eastern states Ashtalakshi, said, "Making the butterfly the mascot in these games also symbolizes how the North-East is getting a new experience."
