Justice S. K. Suryakant Sworn in as 53rd Chief Justice of India
On 24 November 2025, Justice S. K. Suryakant was sworn in as the 53rd Chief Justice of India (CJI). The oath ceremony took place at Rashtrapati Bhavan, where President Draupadi Murmu administered the oath. After taking the oath, Justice Suryakant touched the feet of his elder brother and sister as a mark of respect. His family members were present at the ceremony.
Meeting with Dignitaries
Following the oath, CJI Suryakant met Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other dignitaries. He also embraced former CJI B.R. Gavai, who set a new example by leaving his official vehicle at Rashtrapati Bhavan for his successor, Justice S. K. Suryakant.
Attendance by International and Supreme Court Judges
The ceremony was attended by Chief Justices from seven countries, including Brazil, Bhutan, Kenya, Malaysia, Mauritius, Nepal, and Sri Lanka, along with members of their families. Several judges of the Supreme Court of India were also present.
