Justice BR Gavai Takes Oath as 52nd Chief Justice of India

He sought blessings from his mother after the swearing-in ceremony.

Justice Gavai Sworn in as CJI

Justice Bhushan Ramkrishna Gavai was sworn in as the 52nd Chief Justice of India on May 14. After taking the oath, he touched his mother's feet and sought her blessings. The oath ceremony was administered by President Droupadi Murmu.

The event was attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar, former President Ram Nath Kovind, and other dignitaries. Following the ceremony, Justice Gavai greeted everyone and shook hands with Prime Minister Modi.

Historic Background

Justice BR Gavai is the first Buddhist Chief Justice of India and the second from the Dalit community after India's independence. His tenure as CJI is set to last for six months.
