Smritivan is a symbol of Kutch’s resilience against adversities – a story of perseverance, a symbol of rebirth and a testimony to transformation. Envisioned under the leadership of PM Modi, Smritivan is spread over an area of 470 acres on Bhujio Hill in Bhuj. Smritivan Earthquake Museum (Bhuj, India), World Selection for Prix Versailles Museum 2024. Adding a new dimension to its achievements, Gujarat has further enhanced its global recognition and prestige, as Smritivan Earthquake Memorial Museum in Bhuj has been listed as one of the seven most beautiful museums in the world in the renowned Prix Versailles award for architecture and design given annually by UNESCO.
Smitrivan has become the first museum in India to receive global acclaim for its dedication to local culture and environmental conservation. This honour is a matter of immense pride for every Gujarati, Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel has congratulated the entire team involved in the construction and management of Smritivan on this important achievement.
On August 28, 2022, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Smritivan Earthquake Memorial in Gujarat, built in memory of those who died in the devastating earthquake in Kutch on January 26, 2001.
After the museum was included in the UNESCO list, PM Modi lauded the achievement and called the museum a tribute to those who lost their lives in the tragic earthquake of 2001. He said in a post on X, "Smritivan in Kutch is a tribute to those we lost in the tragic earthquake of 2001. It is a reminder of human resilience and courage. Glad that this museum has found a place in the world selection for the Prix Versailles Museum 2024."
