The 24th meeting of the Council of Heads of State of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) was held in Astana, the capital of Kazakhstan, on 4 July 2024. Kazakhstan President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev hosted the summit. Belarus has been included as the 10th full member of the SCO. Before the inclusion of Belarus, it had nine members. India, Iran, Kazakhstan, China, Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan, Russia, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan. External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar met Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit in Astana, Kazakhstan. This is the first high-level meeting after the formation of the Modi 3.0 government in New Delhi.
Kazakhstan hosted a two-day summit on July 3-4 on the theme "Strengthening Multilateral Dialogue - the Pursuit of Sustainable Peace and Development". Heads of State and Government of the Member States, as well as representatives of regional and international organizations attended the event.
Established on June 15, 2001 as a permanent intergovernmental international organization, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization aims to strengthen mutual trust, friendship and a spirit of good neighbourliness among Member States; encourage effective cooperation among Member States in such fields as politics, trade, economy, science and technology, culture, education, energy, transport, tourism, environmental protection, etc.; and jointly ensure and maintain peace, security and stability in the region.
