President Draupadi Murmu awarded 10 Kirti Chakras, seven of them posthumously, to Army and paramilitary personnel for their indomitable courage and extraordinary bravery. The President also awarded 26 Shaurya Chakras, seven of them posthumously. After Ashoka Chakra, Kirti Chakra is the second highest peacetime gallantry award in the country and Shaurya Chakra is the third highest gallantry award.
The Defence Ministry said in a statement that President Murmu awarded these decorations to the armed forces, Central Armed Police Forces and State/Union Territory Police during a ceremony held at Rashtrapati Bhavan.
According to the list of awardees, Sepoy Pawan Kumar of Grenadiers in 55th Battalion of Rashtriya Rifles of Indian Army; Captain Anshuman Singh of Army Medical Corps of 26th Battalion of Punjab Regiment; Havildar Abdul Majeed of the 9th Battalion of the Parachute Regiment (Special Forces) was awarded the Kirti Chakra posthumously. Inspector Dilip Kumar Das, Head Constable Raj Kumar Yadav, Constable Bablu Rabha and Constable Shambhu Rai of the 210 Cobra Battalion of the CRPF were also awarded the Kirti Chakra posthumously. Apart from these, two officers of the rank of Major and a Naib Subedar were also awarded the Kirti Chakra.
