77% Indore Residents Want 'Indore Metropolitan Authority', Reject Names Like Avantika or Malwa
A discussion on the name of the new Metropolitan Authority will take place in the cabinet meeting scheduled for Tuesday. The proposed names so far include Avantika, Malwa, and Indore-Ujjain Metropolitan Authority.
According to a survey conducted by Bhaskar, 77% of city residents have rejected these names. The majority believe that the authority should be named 'Indore Metropolitan Authority' to protect the city's identity.
Residents argue that since the proposed metropolitan region comprises 100% of Indore’s area and does not even fully include surrounding districts or cities, naming it after Indore makes logical sense. They also cite the example of Bhopal, where the metropolitan region is named directly after the city.
"If Bhopal's metropolitan region can be called Bhopal Metropolitan Region, then why not the same for Indore?" said several residents.
