Indore Becomes India's Cleanest City for the 8th Time: Honored by the President
On July 17, the results of Swachh Survekshan 2024 were declared, with Indore once again securing the top spot as the cleanest city in India. This marks the eighth consecutive time that Indore has been named the cleanest city in the country. President Droupadi Murmu awarded the city for its remarkable achievement. Additionally, Indore has been included in the "Super League" this year, a category reserved for 23 cities that have previously ranked first, second, or third in any of the past surveys.
Mayor's Statement
Indore Mayor Pushyamitra Bhargav stated that the city is once again at the top. This year, the Government of India placed Indore and similar cities in a separate league, distinguishing them from other cities in terms of ranking. Despite being part of this elite league, Indore maintained its top position.
Indore's Cleanliness Model
The Mayor further emphasized that Indore has now become a model for cleanliness, with the dedication and hard work of the people of Indore and the Safai Mitras. He encouraged everyone to continue their commitment to keeping the city clean.
Municipal Commissioner's Statement
Municipal Commissioner Shivam Verma mentioned that they will continue to maintain the city's cleanliness with the same enthusiasm and responsibility. This honor is a collective achievement, and they will also mentor other cities to improve their sanitation systems.
Indore's Continued Success in Swachh Survekshan
Indore has held the first position in Swachh Survekshan since 2017. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has also praised the city, noting that while other cities are still contemplating improvements, Indore has already set a benchmark. The city’s public participation model and innovations have placed it far ahead of others.
Swachhata Award and Rankings
Cities like Bhopal, Dewas, and Shahganj have been recognized with Presidential Awards for their achievements in cleanliness. These cities will be awarded in specific categories, with their rankings expected to fall between 1 and 3.
New Population Categories for Cities
For the first time, cities have been categorized into 5 population groups for the survey:
- Very Small Cities – Population under 20,000
- Small Cities – Population between 20,000 to 50,000
- Medium Cities – Population between 50,000 to 3 lakh
- Large Cities – Population between 3 lakh to 10 lakh
- Million-Plus Cities – Population above 10 lakh
