India's Key Developments - August 2025

• Shramshree Scheme in Bengal: West Bengal launched the 'Shramshree' scheme for migrant workers returning from other states after facing discrimination. It offers ₹5,000 monthly support, skill training, and self-employment assistance for one year.
• Agni-5 Missile Test: India successfully tested the Agni-5 ballistic missile from Chandipur, Odisha. With a range of 5,000 km, it uses MIRV (Multiple Independently targetable Reentry Vehicle) technology to strike three targets simultaneously.
• India Post IT 2.0 Implementation: The Indian Postal Department rolled out IT 2.0 (Advanced Postal Technology) nationwide. Part of the Digital India initiative, this upgrade enhances efficiency and accessibility in postal services through modern technology.
• EPFO Payroll Record: The Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation recorded a historic net payroll addition of 21.89 lakh in June 2025. This marks the highest monthly increase since April 2018 — up 9.14% from May 2025 and 13.46% from June 2024.
• Industrial Growth in July 2025: Growth in India’s 8 core industries dropped to 2% in July. While sectors like steel, cement, fertilizers, and electricity grew, petroleum and coal sectors saw a decline. These industries contribute 40.27% to the IIP (Index of Industrial Production).
• Renaming of Jalalabad to Parshurampuri: Jalalabad town in Shahjahanpur district, Uttar Pradesh, has been renamed 'Parshurampuri'. The town is believed to be the birthplace of Lord Parshuram. The Ministry of Home Affairs has approved this name change.
• Annachakra Digital System: To streamline the ration distribution system, the government introduced 'Annachakra' in 30 states and union territories. This computer-based tool ensures timely and accurate supply from central warehouses to ration shops. It improves delivery speed, reduces transport costs, and is expected to save ₹250 crore annually.
