A Kerala-based startup under the Kerala Irrigation Infrastructure Development Corporation (KIIDC) is set to launch environmentally safe, organic water bottles soon. These are being called 'Compostable Bottles' and are being considered a first-of-its-kind initiative in the country for environmental safety. On January 8, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan mentioned in a statement that these bottles will be launched in mid-January. According to the statement, the Kerala startup, Green Bio Products, will supply raw materials, while KIIDC will handle the production.

These new bottles will be sold under the 'Hilly Aqua' brand and are intended to replace plastic bottles. The project gained success when Kerala's Water Resources Minister Roshy Augustine showed deep interest in a prototype prepared by Green Bio Products, which was showcased at an exhibition in Mumbai in 2019.

International Agencies Have Given the Green Signal

The raw materials used for making these bottles are fully biodegradable, and they have been certified by both domestic and international agencies. The statement also mentioned that, initially, these bottles will be distributed at high-traffic tourist spots and festival locations before being sent to other parts of the state and country.
