Indian Railways Pantry Scandal: Worker Caught Washing Disposable Plates in Train Toilet

Railway Scandal: Pantry Worker Caught Washing Used Plates in Train Toilet

If you often travel by train and order food from the pantry, this news might shock you. A viral video has exposed the poor hygiene and cleanliness practices in Indian Railways’ catering services.

The video shows a pantry worker of train number 16601 – Amrit Bharat Express washing used disposable plates inside the train toilet and preparing to reuse them for serving food to passengers. The video, recorded by a passenger, quickly went viral on social media.

Following the outrage, Indian Railways immediately terminated the vendor’s services and initiated action to cancel the vendor’s license. The railway authorities themselves confirmed this disciplinary action.

What Exactly Happened?

The passenger who recorded the video, Ravi Dwivedi, is a resident of Satna and works in Shahdol. On the day of the incident, he was traveling from Katni to Satna on the Amrit Bharat Express. As he didn’t have a reserved seat, he was standing near the pantry car.

While traveling, Ravi noticed a pantry worker taking out used disposable plates and food boxes from a dustbin. To his shock, the worker started washing them with water in the washbasin located near the train’s toilet.

This clearly indicated that the dirty plates were being cleaned and reused to serve food to passengers — a serious violation of hygiene and safety standards.

Worker’s Response: “We Sell Them Back at Half Price”

When confronted by Ravi, the pantry worker responded casually, saying that the disposable plates are “resold at half price,” and that is why they are washed and reused. This shocking reply exposed how hygiene is being compromised to save money.

Fortunately, the incident was captured on camera, and the entire malpractice was exposed before it could continue further.

Railways’ Action

After the video went viral, Indian Railways took immediate action, removing the vendor on the spot and beginning the process to cancel the vendor’s license. Officials have promised stricter monitoring and inspections to ensure such incidents do not happen again.

Conclusion: The shocking incident from Amrit Bharat Express highlights the urgent need for stricter food safety standards and supervision in Indian Railways’ catering system. Passengers are advised to stay vigilant and report any such unhygienic practices immediately.
