Indian Navy to Commission Mahe-Class Submarine Hunter Warship
The Indian Navy is taking a major step towards self-reliance in defense. The Mahe, an indigenous submarine-hunting warship made with 80% local components, will be commissioned on 24th November. This is the first Mahe-class warship, and eight more are planned.
Commissioning at Naval Dockyard
The commissioning ceremony for the Mahe-class "Anti-Submarine Warfare Shallow Water Craft" will be held at the Mumbai Naval Dockyard. Hosted by the Western Naval Command's Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief Vice Admiral Krishna Swaminathan, the event will be presided over by Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi.
New Generation of Indigenous Shallow Water Warships
The Mahe marks the beginning of a new generation of fast, agile, and technologically advanced shallow water warships. With more than 80% indigenous components, it demonstrates India's growing design and manufacturing capabilities.
Built by Cochin Shipyard Limited
Constructed by Cochin Shipyard Limited, the Mahe is designed as a "Silent Hunter" along India's western coastline. It can detect enemy submarines in shallow waters, conduct coastal patrols, and secure critical maritime routes. The ship’s emblem features the flexible Kalari sword 'Urumi', symbolizing agility, precision, and lethality.
