Indian Army to Deploy Drone Forces at Battalion Level
The Indian Army is now preparing its soldiers not just for traditional warfare but also for modern combat scenarios. In a major strategic shift, every battalion will now be equipped with drone capabilities and anti-drone counter-operation systems.
This modernization follows the highly successful Operation Sindoor, where India inflicted significant damage on Pakistani assets. Indian fighter jets first destroyed terrorist camps, and later when the Pakistani military retaliated, their airbases and fighter jets suffered substantial losses. The operation marked a significant evolution in modern military tactics.
Pakistan’s use of advanced Turkish and Chinese weapons during the conflict highlighted the need for India to revamp its military preparedness. As a result, the Indian Army is implementing plans to deploy both drones and counter-UAV systems at the battalion level, preparing troops for contemporary warfare.
According to a report by The Indian Express, the Indian Army is not only deploying these systems but also training soldiers specifically for their use. Sources revealed that the army plans to form "Light Commando Battalions" and also aims to establish "Integrated Brigades" to deal with future threats more effectively.
Lessons learned from Operation Sindoor have made these transformations essential. With Pakistan’s allies China and Turkey focusing heavily on drone warfare and next-generation fighter jets, India must remain fully updated to face evolving challenges on the battlefield.
