India Wins Squash World Cup
India made history by winning the Squash World Cup in the mixed team event, held at the Express Avenue Mall in Chennai. The Indian mixed team defeated Hong Kong 3-0 in the final, securing India’s first-ever gold in this event. Previously, India's best performance was a bronze medal in 2023. The tournament featured 12 teams competing in a fast-paced and exciting format.
India made it to the final after defeating the strong Egyptian team in the semifinals. The Indian team's dominance was evident from the start to the end of the final match.
The Indian team was led by the veteran player Joshna Chinappa. In the first match of the final, Joshna Chinappa defeated Hong Kong’s Yee Lee (World No. 37) 3-1 to give India an early lead. Following this, Abhay Singh beat Alex Lau 3-0 to extend India's advantage. In the decisive match, 17-year-old Anahat Singh sealed India’s historic win by defeating Tomate Ho 3-0.
The Indian team, consisting of Joshna Chinappa, Abhay Singh, Velavan Senthilkumar, and Anahat Singh, played with great determination and skill. A large number of spectators gathered at the Express Avenue Mall to watch the exciting final unfold.
