India Upgrades Technical Mission in Kabul to Embassy Status
India has granted its technical mission in Kabul the status of an embassy with immediate effect. This move follows the visit of Afghan Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi to India and is aimed at strengthening diplomatic ties.
On 21 October, India promoted its technical mission in Kabul to the status of an Indian Embassy in Afghanistan. This development came a few days after the one-week visit of Afghan Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi to India. The Ministry of External Affairs stated, “In accordance with the decision announced during the recent visit of the Afghan Foreign Minister to India, the Government is immediately granting the Indian Technical Mission in Kabul the status equivalent to an Indian Embassy in Afghanistan.”
The Ministry said this step is part of the growing diplomatic relationship between India and Afghanistan. The Ministry stated, “This decision underscores India’s resolve to deepen bilateral relations with the Afghan side in all areas of mutual interest.”
“The Indian Embassy in Kabul will further enhance India’s contributions to Afghanistan’s broad-based development, humanitarian assistance, and capacity-building initiatives, keeping in mind the priorities and aspirations of Afghan society,” the Ministry added.
