India to Host World Badminton Championship Next Year
During the World Badminton Championship held in Paris, BAI assured that next year the tournament will be grandly hosted by India. India last hosted the Badminton World Championship in Hyderabad in 2009. The 30th edition of the World Championship will be held in August 2026 in Delhi. This will mark the tournament's return to Asia after six years.
India has promised to uphold and extend the excellence and grandeur shown by Paris during the upcoming World Badminton Championship in Delhi next year.
Sanjay Mishra, Honorary Secretary of Badminton Association of India (BAI), stated this during the closing ceremony of the prestigious tournament in Paris on Monday. India will host the 30th edition of the tournament in Delhi next August. This will be the second time India hosts this prestigious competition, the first being in Hyderabad in 2009.
Sanjay said, "We assure you that India will maintain and elevate the standards of excellence and grandeur displayed in Paris. We are eager to welcome the global badminton family in Delhi."
The announcement was made during the closing ceremony of the 2025 championship in Paris. The handover of responsibilities took place between BWF President Khunying Patama Leeswadtrakul, French Badminton Federation President Frank Laurent, and BAI Honorary Secretary Sanjay Mishra.
The Delhi hosting marks the return of the tournament to Asia after six years. China’s Nanjing hosted the 2018 edition.
