Paris Paralympics 2024 ended on 8 September. These games were historic for India. India broke all previous records and won a total of 29 medals in Paris Paralympics. These are the highest number of medals won by India in any one Paralympics. India ranked 18th among 170 countries in the medal tally. India won 7 gold medals in Paris Paralympics. Never before had India won so many gold medals in Paralympics. Apart from this, 9 silver and 13 bronze medals also came in India's bag. Many achievements for India came to the fore for the first time in the Paralympics in Paris. Sheetal Devi and Rakesh Kumar won India's first Paralympic medal in the mixed team event of recurve archery. Kapil Parmar was the first Indian Paralympic medalist in Judo. Harvinder Singh also won the first gold medal for the country in para archery. In addition, Hokato Sema became Nagaland's first Paralympian, while also becoming the first medallist from his state in men's shot put F57. Avani Lekhara (gold in women's 10m air rifle SH1) and Mariyappan Thangavelu (bronze in men's high jump T63) won the third Paralympic medal of their respective careers, more than any other Indian in history. Only Joginder Singh Bedi and Devendra Jhajharia had won three medals before the Paris Paralympics. Indian para athletes became multiple Paralympic medallists in Paris, including Sumit Antil. Harvinder Singh, Praveen Kumar, Suhas Yathiraj, Nishad Kumar, Sharad Kumar, Manish Narwal, Yogesh Kathuniya, Sundar Singh Gurjar all won medals in Paris after winning medals in Tokyo, while Preeti Pal won two bronze medals here in Paris.
