India Wins 4 More Gold Medals at Commonwealth Weightlifting Championship 2025
India continued its dominance in the Commonwealth Weightlifting Championship being held in Ahmedabad, as lifters Bindia Rani Devi, Muthupandi Raja, and Sneha Soren secured silver medals on Tuesday. The highlight of the day, however, was 17-year-old Koyal Bar, who won gold in the women's 53 kg youth category while setting a new Youth World Record.
Koyal Bar Creates History with Youth World Record
Koyal lifted a total of 192 kg — 85 kg in snatch and 107 kg in clean & jerk — to clinch gold in the youth category and broke the Youth World Record. Her total lift surpassed that of Sneha Soren, who won silver in the senior category with 185 kg. Koyal also set records in both total and clean & jerk, earning her titles in both the youth and junior categories.
Bindia Rani Devi Wins Silver in Women’s 58 kg
In the women's 58 kg category, Bindia Rani Devi lifted a total of 206 kg (91 kg snatch + 115 kg clean & jerk) to earn a silver medal for India.
Sneha Soren Takes Silver in Senior 53 kg Category
In the women’s 53 kg senior division, Nigeria’s Omolola Onome Didih won gold by lifting a total of 197 kg (90 kg snatch + 107 kg clean & jerk). India’s Sneha Soren secured silver with a lift of 185 kg (81 kg + 104 kg).
India’s performance in the championship continues to showcase the country’s rising talent in weightlifting, particularly in the youth and junior categories.
