With this victory, India suffered its largest defeat by runs at home in Test cricket. Previously, Australia had defeated India by 342 runs in Nagpur in 2004. Within 13 months, India has been clean-swept in a home Test series twice, after losing 3-0 to New Zealand in October-November 2024. This loss also impacts India's position in the World Test Championship.
