IIT Guwahati Develops Smart Breath-Powered Communication Device

On August 4, researchers from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Guwahati, in collaboration with Ohio State University, unveiled a groundbreaking communication device that converts breath into voice, even without audible sound.

The team developed a low-cost underwater vibration sensor capable of detecting a person's breath and interpreting it as speech input. This innovative work was recently published in the journal Advanced Functional Materials.

Unlike traditional voice-based systems, the new sensor detects subtle airflow from the mouth during speech attempts, even if no sound is produced. This breakthrough has been recognized as a potential leap forward in the field of contactless communication.
