IGNOU Appoints First Woman Vice-Chancellor in Four Decades
Professor Uma Kanjilal Appointed as First Woman Vice-Chancellor of IGNOU
Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) has appointed Professor Uma Kanjilal as its new Vice-Chancellor. She is the first woman to assume this top leadership position since the university was established in 1985.
This marks a historic and significant achievement for IGNOU, one of the largest open universities in the world. Professor Kanjilal has been serving as the Acting Vice-Chancellor since July 25, 2024. Prior to this role, she held the position of Pro-Vice Chancellor from March 2021 to July 2024.
