Indian Railways is the largest network of railways in Asia. It is also the largest public undertaking of the Govt of India. The Indian Railways offers a great number of employment opportunities.
The Indian Railways regularly publishes the notification for the vacant posts in the Non-Technical Popular Category (NTPC). This category of posts is also called Group C. NTPC exam is quite popular among Indian youth.
Railway Board has classified NTPC posts under two categories: Undergraduate posts and Graduate posts.
Undergraduate posts include Junior Clerk cum Typist, Account Clerk cum Typist, Junior Timekeeper, Train Clerk, Commercial cum Ticket Clerk, etc. The minimum educational qualification to apply for these posts is class 12th. The age limit is from 18-30 years.
The second category is Graduate including various posts like Assistant Station Master, Goods Guard, Senior Timekeeper, Ticket Collector, Traffic Assistant, Commercial Apprentice, Junior Accounts Assistant cum Typist, etc. Graduation is the minimum educational qualification to apply for this category of posts. The age limit is 18-33 years.
RRB NTPC Exam Pattern
Stage I: The RRB NTPC exam is conducted in two phases. The first phase is the 90-minutes long Computer-based Test (CBT) with objective type questions. Negative marking is applicable in this paper with 1/3 Marks deducted for every question attempted wrong.
Stage II: Candidates qualifying the CBT exam during the first phase are eligible to appear for the second and final phase or the Mains exam.

After clearing Stage -II, the candidates who have applied for typist posts have to appear for a typing skill test and there is a CBT for candidates applying for the posts of traffic assistant and station master. CBT includes questions on intelligence, aptitude, and classification.
Document verification and medical examination are done after qualifying both rounds and the final appointment is based on the successful completion of these processes.
Tips To Prepare for RRB NTPC Exam 2019
Mathematics-based questions: Mathematics questions like calculations and simplification, graphs and tables in the exam tests your speed and accuracy. Quantitative aptitude books by RS Agrawal, M. Tyra and Guha are quite useful for preparation
Don’t rush with the reasoning questions: The purpose of this section is to test your understanding and thinking process. It includes verbal and non-verbal questions. Regular practice is of utmost importance for these questions. Assess the question before attempting to answer and don’t rush before with answers as you may tend to make mistakes. Ensure to check your answer twice before marking it in the OMR sheet.
General Knowledge preparation: Prepare from NCERT history, political science and geography textbooks of class VI-XII. Read newspapers regularly. Solve previous year question papers and read competitive exam based monthly magazine Pratiyogita Nirdeshika regularly.
Pay special attention to the general science question. You can rely on NCERT textbooks from class VI-XII for preparation.
Understand the exam pattern and syllabus well before appearing for the exam. Solve the last 10-year question papers.
Regular practice and good reference material is the key. Plan well and strategize your studies.
