देश को नया मुख्य सूचना आयुक्त मिल गया है। आज राष्ट्रपति द्रौपदी मुर्मू ने सूचना आयुक्त हीरालाल सामरिया को 6 नवंबर को केंद्रीय सूचना आयोग (सीआईसी) के प्रमुख के रूप में शपथ दिलाई। यह पद वाई. के. सिन्हा का कार्यकाल तीन अक्टूबर को समाप्त हो जाने के बाद रिक्त हो गया था।अधिकारियों ने बताया कि राष्ट्रपति मुर्मू ने यहां राष्ट्रपति भवन में एक समारोह के दौरान सामरिया को पद की शपथ दिलाई।

सामरिया की मुख्य सूचना आयुक्त के रूप में नियुक्ति के बाद सूचना आयुक्त के आठ पद रिक्त हैं। आयोग में इस समय दो सूचना आयुक्त हैं।आरटीआई मामलों के सर्वोच्च अपीलीय प्राधिकरण केंद्रीय सूचना आयोग में एक मुख्य सूचना आयुक्त और अधिकतम 10 सूचना आयुक्त हो सकते हैं।उच्चतम न्यायालय ने केंद्रीय सूचना आयोग (सीआईसी) और राज्य सूचना आयोगों (एसआईसी) में रिक्त पदों को भरने के लिए कदम उठाने का केंद्र एवं राज्य सरकारों को निर्देश देते हुए 30 अक्टूबर को कहा था कि ऐसा नहीं होने पर सूचना का अधिकार कानून ‘निष्प्रभावी’ हो जाएगा। प्रधान न्यायाधीश डी वाई चंद्रचूड़ और न्यायमूर्ति जे बी पारदीवाला तथा न्यायमूर्ति मनोज मिश्रा की पीठ ने कार्मिक एवं प्रशिक्षण विभाग (डीओपीटी) को राज्य सूचना आयोगों में मंजूर पदों, रिक्तियों और वहां लंबित मामलों की कुल संख्या सहित कई पहलुओं पर सभी राज्यों से सूचना एकत्र करने को कहा था।

A new Chief Information Commissioner has been appointed in the country. Today, President Draupadi Murmu administered the oath of office to Heeralal Samaria as the Chief Information Commissioner of the Central Information Commission (CIC). This position had become vacant after the completion of Y.K. Sinha's term on October 3. Officials have reported that President Murmu administered the oath of office to Samaria during a ceremony held at the Rashtrapati Bhavan. With Samaria's appointment as the Chief Information Commissioner, eight positions for Information Commissioners are now vacant. Currently, there are two Information Commissioners in the Commission. In the Central Information Commission, there can be a Chief Information Commissioner and a maximum of ten Information Commissioners. The Supreme Court had directed the Central and State governments to take steps to fill the vacant positions in the Central Information Commission (CIC) and State Information Commissions (SICs) on October 30. The Supreme Court, through Chief Justice D.Y. Chandrachud, Justice J.B. Pardiwala, and Justice Manoj Mishra, had instructed the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) to gather information from all states, including details of approved positions, vacancies, and pending cases. Failure to do so, the Supreme Court warned, would render the Right to Information (RTI) Act 'ineffective.'
