Gurunanak Jayanti: Pakistan Issues 2100 Visas for Sikh Pilgrims
On the occasion of Gurunanak Jayanti, also known as Prakash Parv, Pakistan has granted permission to 2100 Sikh pilgrims to visit the country. The Pakistani High Commission in India shared this information on social media platform X.
The High Commission stated, "The Pakistan High Commission in New Delhi has issued more than 2100 visas to Indian Sikh pilgrims to participate in the birth anniversary celebrations of Shri Guru Nanak Dev Ji. The festival will be held from 4th to 13th November 2025 in Pakistan."
Pilgrimage Details
Under the 1974 India-Pakistan protocol, these pilgrims will travel via the Attari-Wagah border and visit sacred Gurudwaras including Nankana Sahib and Kartarpur Sahib. The Kartarpur Corridor was opened in 2019 for visa-free travel, allowing easy access to the Darbar Sahib Gurudwara. Kartarpur Sahib holds great significance as Guru Nanak Dev spent his final days there.
Security Context
Recently, tensions between India and Pakistan have escalated. Following terrorist attacks in Pahalgam, India imposed several restrictions on Pakistan. The Indus Water Treaty was revoked, and under Operation Sindoor, India targeted nine terrorist camps in Pakistan. Hence, this pilgrimage is considered important from a security perspective.
