दुबई में पर्यावरण संरक्षण पर शिखर सम्मेलन काप-28 चल रहा है। इस बीच भारत की तरफ से 3 दिसंबर को एलान किया गया है कि वह 80 हजार मेगावाट क्षमता के नए ताप बिजली संयंत्र लगाने जा रहा है। यह पिछले दो दशकों में किसी भी देश की तरफ से ताप बिजली क्षमता बढ़ाने का सबसे बड़ा एलान है।

देश में तार बिजली संयंत्र यानी कोयला से बिजली बनाने वाले नये प्लांट लगाने की योजना को लेकर केंद्र सरकार के विचार बदल चुके हैं। दरअसल, अगले ढ़ाई-तीन दशकों तक बहुत ही आर्थिक विकास दर के बेहद तेज रहने, तेजी से शहरीकरण की रफ्तार बढ़ने, आम आदमी की आर्थिक स्थिति में सुधार होना कुछ ऐसे तथ्य हैं, जो देश में बिजली की मांग को काफी तेज करेंगी। वर्ष 2050 तक भारत के औसतन बिजली की मांग 1.4 गुणा बढ़ने की संभावना है।

Summit COP-28 on environmental protection is going on in Dubai. Meanwhile, India has announced on December 3 that it is going to set up new thermal power plants of 80 thousand MW capacity. This is the biggest announcement of increasing thermal power capacity by any country in the last two decades. The views of the Central Government have changed regarding the plan to set up new wire power plants i.e. new plants generating electricity from coal in the country. In fact, extremely fast economic growth rate for the next two and a half to three decades, rapid increase in the pace of urbanization, improvement in the economic condition of the common man are some of the facts which will significantly increase the demand for electricity in the country. India's average electricity demand is likely to increase 1.4 times by the year 2050.
