French Open 2025: Sinner, Alcaraz, Swiatek Shine on Day 1

Jannik Sinner, World No. 1, kicked off his French Open 2025 campaign with a straight-sets win over France’s Arthur Rinderknech (6-4, 6-3, 7-5), extending his Grand Slam match-winning streak to 15 matches.

Spain’s Carlos Alcaraz, the defending champion, also cruised into Round 2 with a solid victory over Italy’s qualifier Giulio Zeppieri (6-3, 6-4, 6-2).

Norwegian Casper Ruud defeated Spain’s Albert Ramos-Viñolas convincingly (6-3, 6-4, 6-2).

Swiatek Continues French Open Dominance

Poland’s Iga Swiatek, a three-time French Open champion, defeated Slovakia’s Sramkova (6-3, 6-3) to move into the second round. If she wins this year’s title, she will be the first woman in the Open Era to win the French Open four times in a row.

Swiatek remains unbeaten in her last 22 French Open matches and is yet to win a title this season. In the next round, she will face former US Open champion Emma Raducanu, who defeated China’s Wang Xinyu in a three-set thriller (7-5, 4-6, 6-3).

Nadal’s French Open Legacy

Known as the “King of Clay,” Rafael Nadal has won the French Open a record 14 times. He has played in the tournament 18 times, winning 112 matches and losing only 4 — a world record for any Grand Slam across both men’s and women’s categories.
