France Honors Indian Spy Noor Inayat Khan with Postage Stamp
France has issued a postage stamp in honor of Noor Inayat Khan, a descendant of Tipu Sultan. She is the first Indian-origin woman to receive this recognition. During World War II, Noor played a significant role as a British agent in the French Resistance. She is known as a 'Figure of Resistance' for fighting against Nazi Germany.
Recognition of Noor Inayat Khan
Noor Inayat Khan was previously honored by the United Kingdom in 2014. She worked undercover as a British agent in the French Resistance during the Second World War. To commemorate her contribution, the French postal service, La Poste, has issued a stamp featuring Noor in the uniform of the British Women's Auxiliary Air Force (WAAF).
Legacy of the French Resistance
The French Resistance consisted of groups that fought against Nazi occupation in France during World War II. Author Shrabani Basu, who wrote the biography 'Spy Princess: The Life of Noor Inayat Khan', expressed her happiness over France issuing the stamp in Noor’s honor.
