Foreign Nationals Must Now Register Under New Immigration Law in India
Date: September 1, 2025
The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has officially enforced the provisions of the Immigration and Foreigners Act 2025 starting September 1, 2025. The new law aims to tighten the monitoring and control of foreign nationals residing illegally in India.
This legislation was passed by Parliament in April 2025 and has now been notified for immediate implementation by the ministry.
Under the new rules, the Bureau of Immigration has been granted expanded authority, allowing it to more effectively monitor, track, and act against foreign nationals who are in the country without proper documentation.
The ministry has clarified that these rules will take effect immediately to enhance internal security and uphold the rule of law across the country.
