Five Ancient Crafts of Madhya Pradesh Receive GI Tag
Five ancient crafts from Madhya Pradesh, including Khajuraho Stone Craft, Chhatarpur Furniture, and others, have been granted the prestigious GI (Geographical Indication) tag, marking a significant achievement for the state's heritage and its contribution to India's cultural legacy.
Historic Recognition of Madhya Pradesh's Crafts
The GI tag is a proud addition to the intellectual property rights of these crafts, enhancing their recognition not just within India but globally. MSME Minister, Shri Chaitanya Kumar Kashyap, expressed gratitude to Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav for this historic recognition. This achievement was highlighted by Padma Shri Dr. Rajni Kant, who is renowned as the 'GI Man of India.'

Efforts Behind the GI Tagging
Almost a year ago, the GI application for these crafts was submitted with financial support from NABARD for Khajuraho Stone Craft, Baitul Bhareva Metal Craft, Gwalior Stone Craft, and Gwalior Paper Mache, while the SIDBI Madhya Pradesh provided support for Chhatarpur Furniture. The applications were submitted by the relevant institutions with the technical guidance of Padma Shri Dr. Rajni Kant.
Other Achievements and Future Prospects
In November, Panna Diamond also received the GI tag, and the process of granting GI tags to approximately 25 more products is in its final stages. This recognition is expected to further elevate the cultural identity of Madhya Pradesh and bring global attention to these traditional crafts.
