17 फरवरी को ज्ञान पीठ चयन समिति ने संस्कृत विद्वान जगदगुरु रामभद्राचार्य जी और प्रसिद्ध कवि गुलजार को 58वे ज्ञानपीठ पुरस्कार के लिए नामित किया।
ज्ञानपीठ पुरस्कार भारत का सर्वोच्च साहित्यिक पुरस्कार है जो उन लोगों को प्रदान किया जाता है जो अपने उत्कृष्ट योगदान के लिए साहित्यिक क्षेत्र में पहचान बना चुके हैं। यह पुरस्कार भारतीय साहित्य की उन उच्च गुणवत्ता वाली रचनाओं को समर्पित है जो विभिन्न भाषाओं में की जाती हैं।
ज्ञानपीठ पुरस्कार का संचालन भारतीय साहित्य अकादमी द्वारा किया जाता है, जो राष्ट्रीय साहित्य अकादमी के तहत कार्य करती है।प्रथम ज्ञानपीठ पुरस्कार 1965 में मलयालम लेखक जी शंकर कुरुप को प्रदान किया गया था।
इस पुरस्कार को साल में एक बार दिया जाता है और इसमें साहित्यिक क्षेत्र के विभिन्न प्रकार की रचनाओं को मान्यता प्राप्त होती है, जैसे कि कविता, काव्य, कहानी, नाटक, उपन्यास, आत्मकथा, भूगोल, इतिहास, धर्मशास्त्र, फिलॉसफी, साहित्य विज्ञान, समीक्षा, बाल साहित्य, अनुवाद, विज्ञान या समाजशास्त्र आदि।

The Jnanpith Award is administered by the BharatiyaSahityaAkademi, which functions under the National Sahitya Academy. The first Jnanpith Award was distributed in 1965.
