Election Commission to Issue Unique EPIC Numbers
On May 13, 2025, the Election Commission of India (ECI) announced that it has resolved the long-standing issue of duplicate EPIC numbers and has issued new voter photo identity cards (EPICs) to affected individuals.
The Electors Photo Identity Card (EPIC) is a 10-digit alphanumeric code issued to every registered voter by the Election Commission. It is designed to uniquely identify each voter and prevent impersonation during elections.
This action comes after concerns were raised by public figures such as West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, who alleged that several voters in the state possessed the same EPIC number. In response, the Election Commission has provided all such voters with new EPIC cards containing unique identification numbers.
