Dr. Sarkar Selected for National Teachers' Award 2025

The Ministry of Education has announced the selection of 21 teachers from higher education institutions (HEIs) and polytechnics for the prestigious National Teachers' Award 2025. The award honors outstanding contributions in teaching and academic development.

According to the Ministry's statement on August 26, 2025, these educators were chosen based on criteria such as teaching effectiveness, outreach activities, research, innovation, sponsored research, faculty development, and mentoring. Special emphasis was placed on learning effectiveness and outreach efforts.

In 2023, the Ministry had introduced two separate categories for the awards: one for teachers from higher education institutions and another for those from polytechnic colleges. The 21 awardees come from a diverse range of institutions, including polytechnics, state universities, and central higher education institutions.

The selection process for the National Teachers' Award (NTA) is conducted in two stages. Initially, a Search-cum-Screening Committee evaluates nominations. From this pool, a National Jury makes the final selections based on merit and performance.

The National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 recognizes the importance of having “motivated, energized, and capable faculty” to enhance student learning and institutional development. It also emphasizes incentives like awards and recognition to foster excellence in the teaching profession.

The list of awardees includes two teachers each from Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Gujarat, and Maharashtra. Additionally, one teacher each has been selected from Puducherry, Kerala, Punjab, Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh, Bengaluru, Mizoram, Arunachal Pradesh, and New Delhi.
