Disabled CAPF Personnel to Remain in Service: Full Salary, Promotion, and Support
The Union Home Secretary announced that Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) personnel who lose limbs or become permanently disabled during duty will no longer be removed from service. They will receive full employment benefits, regular salary, promotions, and a one-time financial assistance package.
The announcement was made on July 27 by Union Home Secretary Govind Mohan during the 87th Raising Day celebration of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF). He emphasized that personnel injured in the line of duty would now remain in service with dignity.
A senior CAPF officer told PTI that a committee headed by CRPF Director General Gyanendra Pratap Singh has been formed to implement the plan. The committee is expected to submit its recommendations and framework within the next few months.
Over the years, hundreds of personnel have lost limbs or eyesight due to IED blasts and other attacks while on duty, leading to permanent disability. While very few have been removed from service solely due to injuries, many have been denied promotions due to not meeting physical fitness standards.
The committee will also explore ways to relax those fitness standards so that disabled and injured personnel can receive the same facilities and promotions as their peers.
