Delhi Declares Human Rabies as a Notifiable Disease, Action Plan in Place
The Delhi Government has officially declared human rabies as a notifiable disease. This means that any suspected or confirmed case of rabies must be immediately reported to the Health Department.
According to the government led by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, this decision will help authorities monitor rabies cases in a timely manner and ensure that patients receive prompt medical treatment without delay.
With this order now in effect, all government and private hospitals, medical colleges, and private doctors in Delhi are required to report rabies cases immediately.
Delhi Health Minister Pankaj Kumar Singh stated that even a single death due to rabies is unacceptable. He emphasized that this step will significantly strengthen early treatment and disease surveillance mechanisms.
Rabies is a fatal disease, but it can be completely prevented if treated in time. To further address the issue, the Delhi Government is also preparing a State Action Plan for Rabies Elimination, aimed at preventing rabies-related deaths caused by dog bites.
The notification has come into force with immediate effect.
